Stillness in Photography
My anchor word for our last Mindful Photography session was Stillness.
It was a fairly windy day, and not much seemed still in the woods. A question popped into my mind: What remains still when everything around it is moving? That question guided my gaze throughout the session, leading me to explore the relationship between stillness and movement within a frame.
Arthur's Seat was certainly not going anywhere, while the yellow buttercups dancing in the foreground were. The trunk of a tree stood firm as the grass at its feet swayed in the wind. Only the last image, taken towards the end of the session when the wind had dropped, reveals complete stillness.
One simple word shaped this series of images. Had I chosen a different word from our box of inspiration, I might have created something entirely different. I love how photography can become a tool not only for observation, but also for acceptance, reflection, and reframing the way we see.
Our next Mindful Photography Workshop at Bridgend Farmhouse will be Saturday 4th July at 11.00
