Marvelling at the ordinary
Fully booked Mindful Photography session last week at Sketchy Beats
, with a lovely group of people keen to explore the power of looking with intention.
Sometimes looking asks a little more of us than simply glancing at things. It asks us to slow down and really look.
I love our photo walks along the Water of Leith. It is so ordinary, so familiar. It would be easy to think, I walk along here every day, I’ve seen it millions of times—there’s nothing left to notice.
And yet, this is where mindful photography can offer something. By inviting us to pause and look with curiosity and a sense of wonder, it can shift our attention and allow the familiar to reveal something new.
So what did I marvel at? Pockets of greenery along the riverbank, pops of colour and the changing reflections in the water.
I feel there is always something more to see when we give ourselves the time to look.
