Autumn

The first session of the Seasonal Mindful Photography series felt like the epitome of an autumnal day. A warm colour palette mixed with darker greens and browns, and the sun still gently warming us as we walked.

It is a time of real transformation, of rapidly shifting balances.

Decay became the strongest thread in my own photo-walk. I found myself completely absorbed by the ongoing processes of decomposition and transformation — looking closely at what was fading, changing and slowly becoming something else.

The last time I led a workshop in these woods was in midsummer, and returning now and noticing even the smallest changes has given my relationship with this place a different kind of depth.

A lovely group joined the session yesterday and, as always, it was wonderful to hear about everyone's experience of the photo-walk afterwards. We all walked the same paths, and yet each experience was personal and very much our own.

Our next session will take place in midwinter. By then, the woods will once again be in a state of becoming — familiar, but looking and feeling very different.

I’m already looking forward to returning.
